Football recruiting rankings: Top Maryland high school football recruits in 2027 class

Every year, Maryland produces multiple nationally ranked programs.
Naturally, those programs are led by some of the best high school players in the country.
Looking at the 2027 class, it appears that scenario is true again, with several highly ranked prospects in the state.
Here’s a look at the top 10 players from the Old Line State in the 2027 class.
1. Anthony Sweeney, St. Frances Academy (Baltimore)
Position: EDGE
Height: 6-4
Weight: 230
Commitment: Texas Tech
Football recruiting notes: Sweeney will join St. Frances Academy for his senior season after transferring in from Good Counsel. Last season, he recorded 34 tackles, five tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks.
2. Raylaun Henry, St. Frances Academy (Baltimore)
Position: Cornerback
Height: 6-1
Weight: 180
Commitment: Texas A&M
Football recruiting notes: The Aggies landed a big win last November when Henry committed to Texas A&M. He’s a solid pledge, having taken an unofficial visit to College Station on March 2 and will be back on June 12 for an official.
3. Cahron Wheeler, St. Paul’s School (Baltimore)
Position: Defensive Lineman
Height: 6-5
Weight: 245
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: Wheeler’s a force up front who totaled 30 tackles, six tackles for loss and four sacks in just seven games last season. He’s scheduled to take official visits to Clemson (May 29) and Florida (June 4) this summer.
4. James Pace III, DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville)
Position: EDGE
Height: 6-2.5
Weight: 225
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: Pace unveiled a top eight of Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, and Syracuse back in December. While he hasn’t narrowed the list further, he does have official visits scheduled to Syracuse (June 12) and Maryland (June 19).
5. Myles McAfee, Archbishop Spalding (Severn)
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 6-1
Weight: 170
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: McAfee’s a rising receiver and Notre Dame has recently gotten in the mix after offering him in March. He currently has official visits scheduled to Virginia Tech (May 29) and Maryland (June 19).
6. Joseph Buchanan, McDonogh School (Owings Mills)
Position: Defensive Lineman
Height: 6-4
Weight: 260
Commitment: Virginia Tech
Football recruiting notes: James Franklin and the Hokies landed a massive win on April 16 when Buchanan committed to Virginia Tech. Last season, he totaled 43 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and four sacks.
7. Rion Jackson, Annapolis
Position: EDGE
Height: 6-4
Weight: 218
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: Jackson wrapped up some impressive numbers last season for the Panthers. Coming off the edge, he recorded 62 tackles, 25 quarterback pressures, 16 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, six pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
8. Carter Bonner, St. Frances Academy (Baltimore)
Position: Athlete
Height: 6-2
Weight: 190
Commitment: West Virginia
Football recruiting notes: In a recruiting battle that came down to Penn State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, it was the Mountaineers who came out on top. Bonner committed to West Virginia on April 27.
9. Elijah Butler, St. Frances Academy (Baltimore)
Position: Safety
Height: 6-3
Weight: 190
Commitment: Uncommitted
Football recruiting notes: Florida became a player in Butler’s recruitment after he took an unofficial visit to Gainesville in early April. Virginia Tech still appears to be the front-runner, though, as he’s scheduled to take an official visit to Blacksburg on May 29.
10. Sa’Nir Brooks, St. Frances Academy (Baltimore)
Position: Running Back
Height: 5-11
Weight: 195
Commitment: Syracuse
Football recruiting notes: Brooks is the top running back on one of the nation’s best programs. That’s why it was such a huge recruiting win for Syracuse when he committed to the Orange on January 24.
