A former Michigan State football player is listed as the top prospect in this year's transfer portal cycle.

The movement via the transfer portal has started to wrap up, with rosters mostly finalized for the upcoming 2026 season. At the conclusion of the portal madness sits a former Spartan among the top transfer prospects, with Sam Leavitt sitting as the No. 1 transfer player, according to 247Sports.

Leavitt, who is on to his third team with the LSU Tigers, beat out new Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby and new Texas wide receiver Cam Coleman for the top spot in 247Sports' rankings.

Leavitt started his career at Michigan State as a four-star prospect out of high school. He played for the Spartans during the 2023 season but hit the transfer portal once Jonathan Smith was hired as the next Michigan State head coach.

In 2024, Leavitt led the Sun Devils to a Big 12 championship and appearance in the College Football Playoff. He entered this season as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy but he battle injuries throughout the year, ultimately playing in only seven games.
