Auburn is among several schools included on “flip watch” for a blue-chip linebacker from Houston.
Four-star linebacker and Texas Tech pledge Jhadyn Nelson has set up several official visits for the summer, including one for Auburn, which will begin during the weekend of May 29, according to Sam Spiegelman of Rivals. The visit to Auburn will kick off Nelson’s schedule, which also features trips to Texas (June 5), Texas Tech (June 12), and Michigan (June 19).
Nelson committed to Texas Tech in March, but is taking one last tour to ensure his commitment to the Red Raiders is secure. He tells Spiegelman that he remains heavily committed to Texas Tech, but does not want to “close all doors so fast.” He also mentions that Auburn defensive coordinator DJ Durkin and outside linebackers coach Brad Wilson have made him a priority for the Tigers’ 2027 recruiting class.
Nelson is the No. 41 overall player from the 2027 recruiting cycle and the No. 4 overall linebacker according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He would be a great addition to Auburn’s 2027 recruiting haul that ranks No. 18 in Rivals’ rankings and No. 7 in the SEC. Four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook leads the charge, but the additions of linebacker Kareem Palmer and offensive tackle Layton von Brandt over the last week have shot Auburn up in the rankings. Adding a player of Nelson’s quality would continue Auburn’s pursuit of owning the nation’s top class for the 2027 recruiting cycle.
