As the Washington Huskies continue to pursue reinforcements at cornerback in the 2027 class, secondary coach John Richardson has kept a close eye on three-star Evan Mack.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound product of Crean Lutheran High School in Southern California, who is ranked as the No. 46 player at his position and No. 34 prospect in the state by 247Sports, has been a priority target of Jedd Fisch's coaching staff for a long time.
With 22 offers, including Arizona, Arizona State, California, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, Mack has taken several unofficial visits to Seattle, including most recently for a spring practice in April. On film, it's no surprise that Richardson and defensive coordinator Ryan Walters have made him a priority target thanks to his size, length, and athleticism on the outside.
"Mack is a bouncy two-way athlete who’s also a talented basketball player," former 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins wrote in his evaluation. "In fact, he might have been more known as a hooper before high school, but is now a big-time football prospect and could end up at corner or receiver at the next level. He has a lean, twitchy frame and is a fluid mover."
"He can smother receivers with his length at the line of scrimmage and makes plays on the football down the field. He’s also an aggressive player and not afraid to step and make a big hit. As a receiver, he flashes strong ball skills, runs well after the catch, and wins 50-50 balls. He’s a reactionary athlete who we think is an easy national recruit who can play for any program in the country."
As Washington looks to add to its secondary class, which currently holds pledges from four-star safety Isala Aisa Wily-Ava and three-star cornerback Maurice Williams, the next step with Mack will be setting up an official visit. He hasn't announced any trips, which could be a good sign of Washington's standing in his recruitment.
The Huskies are currently slated to host three uncommitted cornerbacks for official visits in the coming weeks: four-star prospects Censere Gaylord, Kamil Loud, and Jailen Hill.
