MWCConnection Recruiting Roundup 5-25-26. It’s Official Visit Season!

It’s another week of the Recruiting Roundup.
Recruiting camps draw near, as soon as the calendar turns to June. This will be a time for high school recruits to get on campus, but also to work out and play in front of coaches. Players on the bubble or lower on recruiting boards can raise their stock and hopefully land an offer at the conclusion of the camp.
Also, the end of May/start of June means it’s official visit season. There will be a high number of official visits each weekend based on the social media posts that have been appearing over the past month or so. Teams in the Mountain West and Pac-12 have embraced the early OV period over the years. The schools from the two conferences will host a ton of visits over the next month, and we are tracking as many as possible.
Recruiting personnel and coaches have stated they like official visits occurring in the offseason to have more time to spend with recruits, building the relationship. While coaches often do want recruits to experience a game-day atmosphere, a game weekend often becomes a time crunch, rushing from one thing to another, and only having a short amount of time to spend with recruits. When an OV is held in June instead, coaches can be on hand throughout the weekend. Also, the recruiting process is continually being accelerated, and earlier visits allow teams to have a larger percentage of their class verbally committed before the start of the season.
As for this week, players continue to commit even prior to going on official visits. 13 different teams handed out a total of 55 offers. UNLV led the way with 10 of those offers. On the commitment front, five different teams gained a new player: the Broncos, Lobos, Aztecs, Spartans, and Bobcats. Looking at those players, it looks like the Aztecs landed the highest rated commit and they are on the cover photo this week.

Recruiting Calendar:
For most of May, we are in the evaluation period. Coaches can visit schools to evaluate players athletically and academically. As always, it is okay for texts, calls, and DMs.
Next College Student Athlete says:
The NCAA Evaluation Period is a specific time of year when college coaches are allowed to watch an athlete compete in person or visit their school. However, coaches are not allowed to communicate with that athlete (or parents) off the college campus. Coaches can sit in the stands during a recruit’s practice or game, as well as visit the recruit’s school. This gives college coaches a chance to talk to the recruit’s coach, teachers, or guidance counselor to get a better understanding of the student-athlete’s character. After the visit, the coach may call or email the recruit and let them know how their experience was at the school or game.
The NCAA Evaluation Period is just that: a time set aside for evaluation. While coaches can’t talk to athletes off the college campus, they can still call, email, text, and direct message recruits.
Commitment Spotlight:
RB Hershul Olloway Jr (New Mexico)
“Growing up, I’ve always been a Lobo fan, going to games. Now I’m blessed with a great opportunity to play for my hometown college and be a part of something special. It’s truly a great opportunity, and I’m truly blessed to be a Lobo.”
WR Carter Williams (San Jose State)
“One of the biggest reasons for my commitment to San Jose State Spartans football was Coach Stutzmann, the Recivers coach. He played a huge role in my decision. He recruited me hard from the beginning and always made it clear that he believed in me and wanted me there. With his background coaching receivers and helping develop four All-American receivers in four years, that really stood out to me because that’s the goal I’m working toward. San Jose State Spartans football has been recruiting me since I was a freshman, so the relationship and trust were already there. That loyalty and belief in me meant a lot throughout the process.“
