James Laurinaitis is building a really impressive recruiting profile by stacking classes early in his coaching career at Ohio State. Ohio State football’s latest win on the trail is an impressive addition by the way of the No. 7 LB in the country.

James Laurinaitis took over as the linebackers coach with the Ohio State football program before the 2024 season and he hit the ground running as an elite recruiter.

It’s taken Laurinaitis no time to become arguably the best recruiter on the Ohio State staff, and his work helped the Buckeyes land another major addition on Monday night.

Ohio State football beat out multiple major college football teams for elite defender recruit

The Buckeyes have commitment No. 13 in the class of 2027, in the way of Blue Springs South (MO) LB Prince Goldsby. Ohio State beat out multiple major programs like Alabama, Oklahoma, Miami, Indiana, Ole Miss, and Penn State to land one of the country’s top linebackers.

“I can’t wait to be a part of this unbelievable program with great coaches who teach you, great players who push you, and the best fan base in college football who expect nothing less than excellence,” Goldsby said when announcing his commitment.

According to 247 Sports Composite, Goldsby is the No. 107 player nationally and No. 7 linebacker. The No. 1 player in Missouri joins four-star LB Quinton Cypher as the two commitments in 2027 to this point.

As a junior, Goldsby had a 10-game junior season with 83 tackles, 22.5 TFL, 13.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.

James Laurinaitis is on quite the run as a recruiter early on

Laurinaitis was a secondary recruiter of Ohio State LB James Laurinaitis as a graduate assistant in 2024. The first big wins for Laurinaitis came in 2025 when he was able to land former four-star linebackers TJ Alford and Riley Pettijohn.

Ohio State had the benefit of having five-star LB Cincere Johnson right in their backyard in the 2026 cycle. The Buckeyes also added four-star LB Braxton Rembert. Both will be key players in the future for the Buckeyes and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Johnson gets playing time this season out of Glenville, Ohio.

Monday night was a good one for the Buckeyes football program with a key recruit choosing them. The next few weeks there could be more noise with a ton of visits set to take place through June.
