4-star safety commits to NC State over Georgia football

Four-star safety recruit KJ Caldwell, who is a member of the class of 2027, has committed to the NC State Wolfpack, per Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. Caldwell chose the Wolfpack over Georgia, Kansas State and Mississippi State, and the safety may emerge as a star at NC State in 2027. 

Caldwell’s decision to commit to the Wolfpack over the Bulldogs is the latest recruiting loss for Georgia. Georgia was in the mix for the talented safety, but Caldwell ultimately decided that NC State was the best fit and plans to begin his collegiate career with the Wolfpack in 2027. Caldwell would have been a nice addition to the Dawgs’ 2027 class, but coach Kirby Smart and his staff are now forced to look elsewhere. 

Caldwell is ranked as the No. 5 safety and the No. 82 player from the class of 2027, per the 247Sports Rankings. The safety has been excellent during his time at Parkview High School (Lilburn, Georgia) and he is ranked as the No. 7 player in Georgia. It is not often that NC State comes into Georgia and lands a top-10 recruit in the Peach State, so Caldwell’s commitment is a major win for the Wolfpack. Georgia will bounce back and reload on the recruitment trail in the near future. 

Following Caldwell’s commitment, NC State has the No. 24 recruiting class in the nation. NC State has 11 commitments in the class of 2027. Georgia still has only seven commitments in the 2027 cycle and the No. 33 class nationally.

Georgia has lost some key talent from their 2027 recruiting class as of late. Five-star cornerback Donte Wright recently flipped his commitment from Georgia to Miami, while three-star wide receiver Aden Starling has decommitted from UGA as well.
