The Miami Hurricanes laid a beatdown on the Stanford Cardinal in their Week 1 matchup, and now they’re beating up on their in-state rival, the Florida State Seminoles.
The Seminoles can’t figure out how to turn on the power at their home stadium, and the Hurricanes made sure to let Florida State know they don’t have any problems with the electricity at Hard Rock Stadium.
Miami Hurricanes Clown Florida State for Power Outage Delay vs. SMU
The Hurricanes are sitting on their couches, enjoying the humiliation ritual on display for the Seminoles. With a power outage that lasted about an hour and 40 minutes, Miami is having a great time watching Florida State struggle to fix the issue at Doak Campbell Stadium.
The Hurricanes play at the Miami Dolphins’ stadium, and they made sure to troll their in-state rival on Monday night.
“The lights are ON at our house. See YOU at Hard Rock on Thursday,” said the Hurricanes’ official X account.
Florida State is taking on SMU, with some modifications to the game as not all power was restored, with kickoff at 9:15 p.m. EST. There will be no coach-to-player communication, no visible clock in the stadium, and the scoreboard won’t be on at the start of the game.
This is going to be quite the experience that just about every team will be glad they’re not taking part in. But both teams are embracing the challenge and understand they are dealing with the same issues.
SMU has been waiting months to play football and was kept waiting during the delay. While the Mustangs want to play, this is far from what they expected or wanted. It’s also a pivotal ACC game, as No. 19 SMU won’t have much margin for error. Given their College Football Playoff dreams, they can’t afford an early conference loss in poor and unique conditions.
Florida State kicked off its season last week at home with no power issues. It wasn’t the prettiest game, but they knocked off the weaker New Mexico State to move to 1-0.
Both Miami and Florida State are 1-0. The Seminoles have had a rough couple of years, while the Hurricanes have been one of the top teams in the country. Florida State is off to a rough start to the night with the embarrassing outage, and a blowout would add insult to injury. Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell is on the hot seat, and a loss tonight would put his job in serious danger.

The Hurricanes are readying their stadium for their next game against Florida A&M. It should be an easy game for Miami, but after mocking the power outage in Tallahassee, the Hurricanes better hope the power doesn’t go out at Hard Rock Stadium. Meanwhile, it doesn’t get any easier for Florida State as they travel to play Alabama next.
It’s going to be a spectacle for Miami to sit back and watch, as Florida State plays in what might look like a much different sport than most are used to seeing. Regardless, the Hurricanes aren’t going to hold back their trolling, even in the unfortunate circumstance.
