After an undefeated season and the program’s first National Championship, Indiana’s Curt Cignetti has been featured on a a potential leaked cover of the 2027 edition of EA Sport College Football’s Deluxe Edition.
The superstitious among us will note that the Madden curse is significant enough to warrant their own page on the NFL’s official website. On the other hand, this isn’t *exactly* Madden, and it’s seemingly related to the Deluxe Edition of the game, which could mitigate concerns.
In addition to all of the above, Indiana was also featured in a peripheral spot on last year’s cover, though it didn’t feature any individual coach or player. Of course, there was no curse resulting from that, so this could be taken as a good omen.
Superstition aside, this is just cool and more proof that we have entered unchartered territory. A few years ago, this game didn’t even exist, not to mention how bad Indiana was. Now the game is in its third revived iteration with Indiana gracing the cover for the second straight year.
I’ve played the last two versions of the game, which were fun for the sheer fact of watching how Indiana’s position in the college football universe has changed over the last two seasons.
As a fairly faithful (though at times frustrating) overall simulator of program conditions and player abilities, the 2026 version of the game was a lot easier to play through as Indiana in a dynasty mode. Even before the National Championship, Cignetti was given skills that made it easier to recruit and get the most out of recruits year to year.
With a spot on the cover and an expanding list of achievements, I can only imagine what it’s like to play this year’s game as Indiana.
Going undefeated over the course of the season won’t require a number of mid-game resets to preserve perfection (I do appreciate that there’s no punishment for the rage quit against a CPU opponent, shout-out to EA on that one). You will probably land not just one, but a number of five-star recruits over the course of the first season and offseason. You can win a Heisman and it won’t be the program’s first!
Even if this is just a ploy to get Indiana fans to shell out a few extra bucks on the Deluxe Edition, it’s probably one that will work on me. A game with Cignetti on the cover will be just another piece of unique memorabilia cementing the unbelievable spot Indiana occupies atop college football ahead of the 2026 season.
