Fans of EA Sports’ college football video game will see a Hurricanes star when they buy this year’s version of the game.
Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney is one of three college stars on the cover of the standard edition of EA Sports’ College Football 27. Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy and Oregon quarterback Dante Moore are also on the cover with Toney.
Toney, Lacy and Moore are also on the cover of the deluxe edition of the game — along with Indiana coach Curt Cignetti, USC quarterback Jayden Maiava, Texas defensive lineman Colin Simmons and Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore.
Toney, wearing his new No. 1 jersey, is the first UM athlete to appear on the game’s cover since the game’s introduction in 1993 (the game was not released from 2013 to 2024).
The Hurricanes standout and American Heritage alum became a star in his freshman season at UM last season. Despite not being a highly rated prospect, Toney earned a starting role before the season began. He caught a touchdown in his college debut against Notre Dame.
Toney went on to break several Miami records, setting school single-season records in receptions (109) and receiving yards (1,211). He was a major reason the Hurricanes rolled through their first appearance in the College Football Playoff, reaching the national title game for the first time since the 2002 season.
