A top Notre Dame QB recruiting target is set to make his commitment. It doesn’t appear that the Irish have good news in their future.

Notre Dame football has a small board of 2028 quarterback recruits that they are pushing for right now. One of the top early names is Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage quarterback Neimann Lawrence, and he is an extremely talented signal caller who has already visited South Bend multiple times. The Fighting Irish have been one of the early favorites for Lawrence.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Lawrence was close to making a decision. He will be making his commitment on June 25. Notre Dame has been viewed as a top front-runner for Lawrence, although there was a lot of Texas Longhorn hype when that announcement was made. That is especially true with Lawrence coming off an unofficial visit to Austin this past weekend.

It appears that those vibes are legitimate. Rivals’ national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong has logged an expert prediction for the Florida native to land with Texas.

If Lawrence does land with Texas, Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish are still in a good spot to land a dynamic signal caller in the 2028 class. Notre Dame also has offers extended to Kingston Preyear, Lukas Prock, and Trey Tagliaferri. The Irish are viewed as the early team to beat for Preyear, so odds are that their strong quarterback momentum will continue.

Neimann Lawrence’s recruiting background

Lawrence is considered a four-star, top-100 player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Lawrence is currently rated as a four-star, the No. 53 overall player, the No. 5 quarterback, and the No. 7 player from the state of Florida for the 2028 recruiting class. Each site views him as a potentially elite signal caller when all is said and done.

As legit as Lawrence’s recruiting rankings are, his offer list might be even better. Some of the top programs that have offered him so far include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, Oregon, Florida, Texas A&M, Miami, Nebraska, Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina, TCU, Arkansas, SMU, Illinois, Virginia Tech, Colorado, Pitt, Arizona State, UCF, West Virginia, Syracuse, and Purdue, among others.

The 6-0.5, 202-pound put together a tremendous sophomore season while with Miami (Fla.) Northwestern in 2025. In ten games, Lawrence managed to throw for 1,971 yards and 32 touchdowns, with just one interception. The Florida native also rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries, an average of 11.6 yards per carry.

Lawrence began his career with Miami (Fla.) Ransom Everglades as a freshman in 2024, throwing for 2,777 yards and 31 touchdowns, while also rushing for four more scores on the ground. He is set to star for American Heritage next season.
