Florida's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, better known as 'the Swamp,' was selected No. 4 overall in On3's college football stadium draft. Only the Rose Bowl, Tiger Stadium and Beaver Stadium ranked ahead of the Gators' home site.

The list was constructed by On3's Andy Staples & Ari Wasserman — note that Staples was a walk-on offensive lineman at Florida. Highlighted in the article were home-field advantage factors such as heat, humidity, and an intimidating crowd.

"It’s hot, it’s sticky and it’s intimidating to opposing teams. Florida’s football stadium was a death trap for opposing SEC teams in the days of Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer, and Jon Sumrall wants to bring the Gators back to prominence this year," the authors said of Florida's historic gridiron venue.

Ben Hill Griffin is the largest sports facility in Florida and the No. 12 largest college football stadium in the United States. The stadium got its legendary nickname in 1992 from former head coach Steve Spurrier, who told the Gainesville Sun, “A swamp is where gators live. We feel comfortable there, but we hope our opponents feel tentative. A swamp is hot and sticky and can be dangerous.”

Although the stadium has a listed capacity of 88,548, the all-time record crowd was set in 2015, when 90,916 fans packed in to watch the Gators take on rival Florida State. Originally named Florida Field, the location opened in 1930 and was later named after university benefactor Ben Hill Griffin Jr.

Four SEC stadiums cracked the top 10, with LSU, Tennessee and Auburn serving as the other conference representatives.
