West Virginia Beats Out Multiple SEC Schools for 2027 WR Carter Davis

Monday evening, the West Virginia Mountaineers picked up a commitment from class of 2027 wide receiver Carter Davis (6'0", 175 lbs) out of Gulf Shores High School in Alabama.

Davis picked the Mountaineers over finalists LSU and Mississippi State while also holding offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Miami, Tennessee, Wake Forest, and several others.

In eleven games as a junior, Davis hauled in 45 receptions for 715 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Scouting Report on Carter Davis

A flat-out speed demon. It only took a few plays into his film for me to begin to wonder whether or not he also runs track, and sure enough, he's the Alabama State 60-meter state champ, clocking in at 6.76, which is best for 7th in the nation. He has a 100-meter dash time of 10.7, a 400-meter dash time of 48.5, and a 40-yard dash of 4.41. But in all honesty, it plays much faster than 4.4 speed. When he gets the ball, it's like he's shot out of a cannon. His ability to accelerate and leave defenders in the dust is next level. Not only is he fast, but he's super slippery and shifty, making him an incredibly difficult tackle.

Over the last two years, he's logged over 50 carries at running back and has scored four touchdowns. While he is clearly a receiver, I wouldn't be surprised if he is handed the ball to some in Rich Rodriguez's offense, be it out of the backfield or on jetsweeps.

That kind of speed will find its way onto the field pretty early, even if it's on special teams. With his vision and explosiveness, returning punts/kicks could be in play too.
