Earlier this week, USC football picked up a commitment from junior college tight end Josiah Jefferson. The top JUCO tight end in the class of 2026, Jefferson was previously committed to Utah, but flipped his pledge to the Trojans.
So what caused Jefferson to flip? In a recent interview with 247Sports, the tight end discussed why he chose USC.
"Every program has a lot of good things to offer," Jefferson said. "But Lincoln Riley's offense is absolutely incredible.
""If you just look at the place and how he schemes everything, they utilize everybody. The way they used the tight ends against the University Of Michigan. Who wouldn't want to play in an offense like that?
"And, it's USC. The degree is second to none. That's a big reason why I committed. You really can't find a better degree than that."
Notably, USC's offense has utilized its tight ends significantly more this year than in previous seasons. Through seven games, Lake McRee and Walker Lyons have combined for 481 receiving yards and four touchdowns. That is certainly appealing to recruits at the position, who have clearly taken notice.
