We finally have more details on the upcoming series adaptation of Kennedy Ryan’s romance novel, “Before I Let Go.” Peacock has ordered a series with the same title as the 2022 bestselling fiction story.
Ryan first announced in 2023 that Peacock was developing the series adaptation of “Before I Let Go.” Then, this past April, she struck a deal with Universal Studio Group for the on-screen adaptation and revealed she was writing the pilot with “The Best Man” filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee.
In addition to collaborating on the pilot, Ryan and Lee will also serve as executive producers, along with Dominique Telson of Lee’s company Blackmaled Productions, John Legend through his Get Lifted Film Co., and Debra Martin Chase of Martin Chase Productions.
Joining the team are authors Tembi Locke and Attica Locke as the showrunners and writers, and they will also executive produce the series. The Lockes previously worked together on the Netflix series adaptation of Tembi Locke’s memoir, “From Scratch,” starring Zoe Saldaña.
“Before I Let Go” is the first installment in Ryan’s “Skyland series,” followed by “This Could Be Us” (2023) and “Can’t Get Enough” (2025). The story follows the relationship of separated couple Yasmen and Josiah Wade as they confront the major conflicts that ended their marriage while trying to move forward. But, as the logline tells it, “They are beginning to wonder if they’re truly ready to let go of everything they once had.”
“Getting the chance to bring the ‘Skyland’ series to life onscreen is a dream come true. I’m excited about what this remarkable team is creating,” Ryan said in a statement. “Co-writing the pilot with Malcolm D. Lee and now imagining this world with Attica and Tembi is more than I even knew to ask for. These characters have meant so much to so many readers, and none of this would be possible without the people who have supported my work for years. I’m incredibly grateful and excited to find a new audience for these books that have changed my life.”
