For the second time in a matter of days, Penn State has lost a commitment from its Class of 2027. And once again, the loss of a commitment affects the cornerback position for the Nittany Lions. Zachary Gleason Jr. has flipped his commitment from the Nittany Lions to West Virginia following a recent trip to Morgantown, West Virginia for an official visit.

Gleason is a three-star cornerback in the Class of 2027 from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Central Catholic star originally committed to Penn State over a heavy pursuit by Virginia Tech and former Penn State head coach James Franklin, who had clearly invested time on the recruiting trail while trying to get Gleason to come to Penn State. Now, West Virginia has successfully tipped both Penn State and Virginia Tech in securing Gleason’s commitment.

Earlier this week, Penn State also lost a commitment from three-star cornerback Semajay Robinson. Robinson flipped his commitment to Virginia.

The loss of two cornerback commitments this week leaves Penn State with a total of 20 players in the Class of 2027 at the moment. Among the commitments is cornerbacks Ka’Ron Ceaser and Kei’Shjuan Telfair and safeties Jonathan Galette and Caleb Cooper. With four commitments for the defensive backfield still secured, the depth needs are still being addressed by Matt Campbell and his staff.

Penn State also recently officially lost out on a commitment from four-star safety Gabe Jenkins. Jenkins, another Pittsburgh native, was among the players who backed off a commitment following the head coaching change last fall, and he has since committed to Colorado.
