As the fall season winds down, some of Section 4’s top athletes are stepping up during the postseason, with eight of them nominees for Guthrie Athlete of the Week for Nov. 9-15, 2025.
Nominees are from the coverage areas of the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette, Ithaca Journal and Corning Leader.
Voting will be open until the noon Thursday, Nov. 20.
To submit a nomination for the week of Nov. 16-22, email bgmsports@gannett.com by 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22.
This week’s nominees:
Logan Bellis, Tioga football: Bellis ran for four touchdowns in the second half as the Tigers beat Trumansburg, 44-28, in the Section 4 Class D final.
Tsadia Bercuvitz, Ithaca girls cross country: Bercuvitz took second in Class A for the second year in a row at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships at Queensbury High School. Her time was 17:25.2.
Dylan Brace, Owego Free Academy football: Brace ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns as the River Hawks claimed their first Section 4 title, 27-7, over Waverly in the Class B championship game.
Julian Colon, Elmira football: Colon caught two passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns to go with 88 yards and a touchdown on six rushes in Elmira’s 53-18 win over Corning in the Section 4 Class AA championship game.
Brysen Fry, Chenango Forks football: Fry carried 11 times for 172 yards and four touchdowns as the Blue Devils rolled to a 42-6 win over Oneonta in the Section 4 Class C title contest.
Joseph Gennarelli Jr., Union-Endicott football: He ran for two touchdowns, with the second coming in overtime, as the Tigers held off Horseheads, 21-20, in the Section 4 Class A championship game.
Emmie Makie, Candor volleyball: Makie had 20 kills, 14 service points and 11 digs in a 3-0 win over Spencer-Van Etten in the Section 4 Class D final. She then helped the Coyotes sweep Tupper Lake in a state regional to advance to the state final four.
Trent Thibault, Lansing boys cross country: Thibault ran to the Class C boys title at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships at Queensbury High School. His winning time was 15:28.2.
