Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster returned to Gainesville for an official visit and spoke positively about his time on campus. The No. 1 overall prospect in the 2027 cycle remained committed to Texas Tech but continues to take visits, giving Florida an opportunity to add Brewster to its class.
"LSU and Florida are big contenders in my recruitment," said Brewster.
The Gators have hosted Brewster multiple times, including a pair of spring practice visits, with the weekend being his first official visit. The momentum behind Florida's success on the recruiting trail has kept the program in the mix for top talent like Brewster and fellow five-star athlete Easton Royal, who was also on campus this past weekend.
Brewster told Swamp247 that his visit "was good," and that it was "great being back at Florida, it's always love."
When commenting on Florida's defensive line coach Gerald Chatman, Brewster had some encouraging words.
"He's a real good coach. He don't take no B.S. either. You come in there with the mindset to work or go somewhere else." Brewster went on to say, "You want to be coached by the best D-line coach in the SEC, and get developed into a first-round draft pick."
"Coach Chatman is one of the best coaches they've been around," Brewster said of what sophomore defensive lineman Jeramiah McCloud and early enrollee freshman edge rusher KJ Ford told him.
The No. 1 recruit will finish his summer official visit schedule at Texas Tech from June 19-21.
Brewster is one of the top priorities for Jon Sumrall and Co. as they continue to shift focus towards building out an elite offensive and defensive front. Closing the gap on the rest of the conference begins with fortifying the line of scrimmage.
Jalen Brewster's recruiting summary
Brewster is ranked No. 1 overall and No. 1 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite. The Rivals industry ranking also has Brewster at No. 1. He has garnered 40 offers, including 10 SEC programs. Brewster committed to Texas Tech in October of last year.
According to 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks, Brewster is a "strong, explosive front-line defender with an impressive combination of size and athleticism" who is "not overly long, but broad-trunked and powerfully built" and who "flashes sudden redirection that fosters playmaking in the trenches."
The Lone Star State product is also "experienced inside and in a two-point edge alignment" and is "heavy-handed and stack-and-shed strong." Brooks concludes that Brewster "owns impressive combine testing numbers" and is a "potential high-major impact player in college who could become a bona fide NFL draft candidate."
