Florida State extended an offer to 2027 three-star linebacker CJ Ohuabunwa back in May. He took official visits to the Louisville Cardinals, Kansas Jayhawks, and the Virginia Tech Hokies before coming to Tallahassee this weekend for his final official visit.
There won't be a long wait for Ohuabunwa to make his decision. Per his Instagram account, he will be committing on Monday at noon ET. He's deciding between FSU and the other three schools he took official visits with.
Ohuabunwa spent two days on campus as the Seminoles worked to make a strong final push for the standout from Norcross, Georgia. He was able to dive into some X's and O's with defensive coordinator Tony White. However, per Matt LaSerre of Warchant, linebackers coach Ernie Sims was able to bond with him in a very special way.
"It’s who he is as a human being,” Ohuabunwa said. “Well, it’s several things with Coach Sims, because with Coach Sims, he played here, he is a legend here. He went to the league. He did everything that a linebacker aspires to be, so that’s the first part.
"Then you think about him as a person. I’m a Christian. God’s a big thing to me, and that’s how he is as well. So that’s somewhere we connect on a lot. He’s somebody that like I could see just mentoring me for the rest of my life … somebody that’s in my corner like a father figure or a big brother figure to me. That was really crucial. … I think he’s just a person I want to spend my time with."
The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder is the No. 1,519 recruit nationally and the No. 147 linebacker according to Rivals industry rankings. He's also the No. 156 prospect in Georgia.
Ohuabunwa was a monster at Greater Atlanta Christian School as a junior. He racked up 124 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and he also recorded a safety.
This would be another very solid addition to the linebacker haul for Florida State to go along with three-star Olrick Johnson III, who committed last week, and four-star Jernard Albright.
