Notre Dame has landed a commitment from talented 2027 defensive tackle Segun Alexander. The Rabun Gap, Ga./Nacoochee standout picked Notre Dame over Texas A&M, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt.

The 6-2, 290-pound defensive tackle has had a very quick recruitment that has now ended with him committing to Notre Dame. In May, Alexander reclassified to the 2027 class and the Irish staff immediately ramped up their recruitment of him. Early reports were that he would stay in the South, but Notre Dame made him a priority. It wasn't until his official visit that Notre Dame became the team to beat, and quickly closed the deal of this talented interior defender. Being able to beat out teams like Texas A&M and Clemson adds to how impressive of a pickup this is for the Irish.

As a sophomore, Alexander racked up 36 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He's still a raw football player, but his dominance in 2025 showed the kind of player he can be. Alexander has a unique combination of explosiveness and power, which makes him a difficult player to handle off the ball. He has elite length and natural power, traits that allow him to dominate up the middle. Alexander is still relatively new to football, but he has a lot of natural ability, which is why he quickly became a top prospect for so many programs.

Alexander is the second defensive tackle to commit to the Irish in the 2027 class, joining Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick star David Folorunsho. Alexander and Folorunsho are similar players. Both have shorter builds, they are both strong and thick interior defenders, and both are explosive athletes. This duo gives the Irish defense a major boost in playmaking skill up the middle.

The Rabun Gap native earned a very impressive offer list. He received offers from the Irish, Clemson, Georgia, Texas A&M, Miami (Fla.), Florida, Tennessee, Florida State, Auburn, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Michigan State, North Carolina, West Virginia, California, Kansas and Syracuse.

Alexander is the 20th player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2027 class. He joins Florida quarterback Champ Monds, Texas running back Lathan Whisenton, Massachusetts running back Isaiah Rogers, Colorado wide receiver Jackson Coleman, Florida wide receiver Julius Jones Jr., Oklahoma tight end Titus Hawk, New Jersey offensive lineman Olu Olubobola, Pennsylvania offensive lineman James Halter, Wisconsin lineman Richie Flanigan, California offensive lineman Jackson Hill, Pennsylvania defensive end Abraham Sesay, New Jersey defensive end Jackson Vaughn, New Jersey defensive end Aidan O'Neil, Folorunsho, North Carolina cornerback Xavier Hasan, Ohio cornerback Ace Alston, Florida safety Zayden Gamble, Florida nickel John Gay III and North Carolina long snapper Sean Kraft.
