Baylor QB DJ Lagway expected to return vs. Colorado on Saturday

Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is expected to return for Saturday's game vs. the Colorado Buffaloes after missing the Bears' previous two games with an ankle injury.

Both Colorado and Baylor released the first injury report for the game on Wednesday night. Lagway was listed as probable.

The Florida transfer suffered the injury in Baylor's loss to Auburn in the season opener. He missed games against Louisiana Tech and Prairie View A&M. Nate Bennett filled in for Lagway and threw for 567 yards and six touchdowns in his first two career starts.

In Baylor's only loss of the season, Lagway was 27-of-54 passing for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Colorado's defense will be responsible for keeping track of Lagway, who's a dual-threat passer. The Buffs are one of the worst Big 12 teams against the run, allowing an average of 118.3 yards per game. They're also one of the worst against the pass, allowing a league-high six touchdowns through three games.

As for the rest of the injury report, Colorado will once again be without wide receiver Danny Scudero. The nation's top wideout for receiving yards from last year has five receptions for 24 yards. He came into the season with an injury he suffered in practice. Scudero was spotted at a preseason gathering in a walking boot, adding to the speculation.

Besides Scudero, Colorado has four players out heading into Big 12 play. Buffs cornerback Preston Ashley, linebacker Colby Johnson and offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter aren't available in Baylor. Colorado has an additional 11 players listed ⁸ will try to be out on the field Saturday.

Colorado faces Baylor for the first time in Waco since rejoining the Big 12 two years ago. It's also the third time in history both teams have opened conference play against each other.

Travis Hunter sealed a 38-31 overtime victory for Colorado against Baylor on Sept. 21, 2024. The Buffs two-way star had one of the best highlights from his Heisman season, forcing a fumble at the goal line to end the game. One of the many plays for Hunter against the Bears. He played 145 total snaps during the game (82 on offense and 63 on defense). Before his defensive heroics, Hunter recorded seven catches for 130 yards on offense.
