Notre Dame has found its quarterback for the 2028 class, landing a commitment from Oradell, N.J./Bergen Catholic signal caller Trey Tagliaferri. The 6-2, 190-pound quarterback has jumped on board after making multiple visits to South Bend, and it became clear that the Irish staff wanted him in the class. Notre Dame beat out Penn State, Alabama, Ohio State and a lot of other teams who were making a push for him.

Tagliaferri was a first time starter for the Crusaders, and he led them to an 8-3 record. As a sophomore, Tagliaferri passed for 2,238 yards and 30 touchdowns while completing 62.3-percent of his passes. A pure dropback quarterback, Tagliaferri showed good decision making for a young player, throwing just three interceptions on 212 attempts. He played much better as he got deeper into his sophomore season, throwing 16 touchdowns in the last five games of the season. To put those numbers into perspective consider that Tagliaferri plays at the same high school as former Irish quarterback Steve Angeli. As a senior, Angeli passed for 1,709 yards and 15 touchdowns with two interceptions. Tagliaferri was significantly more productive in fewer games, even as a sophomore.

Tagliaferri has a very quick release and he already throws a really impressive deep ball. He is accurate throwing corner routes, shows aggressiveness getting the ball over the top and he's an accurate passer for his age. The Bergen Catholic passer has solid height at 6-2, but he's likely still growing. He's a bit thin, but he has a frame that should allow him to continue filling out nicely. He's just a sophomore, so it's highly likely he's going to continue growing and filling out, but the sophomore frame he's working with is plenty good enough.

Tagliaferri is graded as a four-star recruit and is ranked as the No. 110 player in the country according to Rivals/On3. He is ranked as the No. 11 quarterback in the nation by Rivals/On3. He is also ranked as the No. 11 quarterback in the nation according to ESPN. Tagliaferri has earned a 4.0-star grade on the Irish Breakdown board but he hasn't been ranked yet from a stacking up to the class standpoint. There's a good foundation for him to work with and he'll only get better as he gains more experience and fills out.

Tagliaferri earned offers from the Irish, Ohio State, Georgia, Texas A&M, Florida, Penn State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Auburn, Ole Miss, Illinois, Stanford, Iowa, Missouri, North Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Maryland, Syracuse, Mississippi State, Boston College, Wake Forest and Rutgers.

He is the third player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2028 class, joining Florida safety Andre Jones and Tennessee kicker Owen Davies. He is a high school teammate of 2027 Notre Dame commit Jackson Vaughn, who plays defensive end for the Crusaders and was originally a member of the 2028 class.
