Three things I like about Notre Dame DB Adon Shuler

We live in a college football world of lists, rankings, and countdowns. Many players on Notre Dame’s roster have been talked about and written about over the last few months — so let’s fall in line.
This will be my official Top 20 Notre Dame Football Players ranking. I will unveil each player, and list the three things I like about them. It seems simple enough, but I have no doubt that some of these ratings will be highly criticized, but you can always share your thoughts in the comments below.
#8 Adon Shuler DB
Underrated and undervalued from the start
Even though Shuler was a 4-Star prospect from the talent rich state of New Jersey, it didn’t register as a huge win among most Irish fans. Ben Minich, for example, was rated a lot higher than Shuler. But then Adon showed up in South Bend, and none of that mattered. While he didn’t see much time as a freshman, that changed drastically going into spring of 2024 and the 2024 season itself. Shuler became a defensive standout playing next to Xavier Watts. Shuler was named a captain in 2025 and will likely be one again… because he just keeps kicking ass on the field and we are all witnesses.
Consistently awesome
There are few plays we can pull up and say… oh man, Adon Shuler messed up there. Of course, there is at least one, and it was just a misjudgment of the ball against Miami. Other than that, Shuler’s consistency as a defender, hitter, and playmaker has made him one of the best defensive backs in the country. A safety needs to be dependable, and Shuler is that and then some.
Trophy hunter
This won’t matter to a lot of people, but to me, this meant a lot… Shuler was the one running around with the Shillelagh Trophy first after beating Purdue in 2024. Yes, beating Purdue is no big deal, but for me, I absolutely appreciated Shuler bringing the hardware out onto the field for the Irish for the first time in recent memory. God bless him.
