Where did LSU football land in USA Today’s latest 136-Team ranking?

LSU football snuck out a significant win over Arkansas on Saturday, narrowly defeating the Razorbacks 23-22. It wasn’t a clean win for the Tigers by any means, as Arkansas is the only remaining SEC team without an in-conference win.

The game shouldn’t have been that close, and LSU’s placement in USA Today’s latest FBS rankings proves that. The Tigers came in ranked 51st in the country, one spot behind Fresno State and one ahead of Boise State.

It’s disappointing to see the Tigers land this far down the rankings after being ranked fourth in the nation following their Week 1 win over Clemson, but it unfortunately reflects where the program currently stands.

LSU has the opportunity to improve this ranking in the coming weeks, however. The Tigers face Western Kentucky this week and close the season with a matchup against Oklahoma, which ranks 8th on USA Today’s list. The Sooners have had an up-and-down season, dropping games to Texas and Ole Miss earlier in the year, but much of that can be attributed to the health of their quarterback, John Mateer.

The Sooners’ past two games have erased any concern regarding Mateer’s status, toppling Tennessee and Alabama in back-to-back games and solidly placing themselves in the college football playoff race.

It will take a performance the Tigers have yet to see from their offense, and the offensive line in particular, to take down the Sooners in Week 14. However, if they can pull it off, it would be a huge morale boost for the program to take into next season.
