Indiana has long been known as the basketball state. Now, with two rising college football programs within its borders, the gridiron is making a claim.
Notre Dame is one of the most history rich programs in all of college football, claiming 11 national titles, having one of the sport’s largest fanbases and sending countless players onto the NFL. Indiana is one of the hottest risers the sport has ever seen, going from a Big Ten afterthought in 2023 to national champions in 2025.
The two met in South Bend to open the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024, with the Fighting Irish claiming victory at home and earning in-state bragging rights. One year later, the Hoosiers accomplished in two years what Notre Dame has sought after for nearly 40 in claiming a national title.
Both fanbases have traded barbs online over the head-to-head win and ensuing national championship. The two will face off in a home-and-home series in 2030 and 2031 with the possibility of future postseason matchups.
