Four-star CB Brandon Sherrard commits to Texas over LSU, Oklahoma

June is over, but the recruiting momentum generated by the Texas Longhorns wasn’t confined to those 30 days, as evidenced by the commitment of Pearland Shadow Creek cornerback Brandon Sherrard on Tuesday over the LSU Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners.

The 6’1, 180-pounder also considered Arizona State, Miami, Missouri, Oregon, and Penn State and held 34 total offers, including Arkansas, Baylor, Florida State, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Vanderbilt, among others.

Here’s the evaluation of Sherrard from 247Sports analyst Gabe Brooks:

Natural cover man with height and above average length.
– Good athlete relative to frame with encouraging verified speed markers in testing and track settings.
– Consistently stays sticky when asked to cover downfield.
– Cognizant of using hands and length to bother receivers early in routes.
– Room to enhance sudden redirection, but fluid enough through the hips and core to turn and run with athletic receivers.
– Ball production can improve, but already shows ability to turn and locate.
– Suffered a shoulder injury late in junior regular season that cut 2025 campaign short.
– Projects to the P4 level as a potential high-major corner with physical and athletic traits that could lead to the pro level.

A consensus four-star prospect, Sherrard is ranked as the No. 157 player nationally and the No. 18 cornerback, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The 22nd pledge overall for the Longhorns in the 2027 class, Sherrard is the fourth cornerback to pledge to position coach Mark Orphey, an impressive haul for Texas, but it may not remain that way for long — Manvel product Greedy James is expected to flip from Texas to LSU on Thursday after rising rapidly in the recruiting rankings.

So Sherrard’s pledge ensures that the Longhorns won’t take too hard of a hit from the projected departure of James from the class.
