The Oklahoma Sooners picked up their 27th commitment of the 2027 recruiting class with the addition of three-star safety Jaiden Fields. Fields, out of Hutto, Texas, chose the Sooners over offers from Texas A&M, Stanford, SMU, and TCU.
He was seen by several Power Four schools as a wide receiver prospect, but the Oklahoma Sooners will add him to Brandon Hall’s safety room. Fields joins fellow safeties Jaylen Scott and Bode Sparrow in Oklahoma’s top 10 recruiting class.
Fields is a playmaker. He has the ball skills to be a difference-maker in coverage but also the instincts and physicality to be a force in run support. He’ll be impactful in the deep middle of the field but can also play around the line of scrimmage. Fields has great speed and agility, which will allow him to cover wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs.
In addition to his work on the defensive side of the ball, Fields is an accomplished special teams player, with the ability to help out in the return game. Fields has the ability to make defenders miss in the open field and the speed to break away from the pack.
With Fields’ commitment, the Sooners added another really good football player to the class. He’s someone that will have a chance to contribute on special teams right away and become a factor in the safety rotation early in his Sooners career.
