SEC analyst predicts Texas A&M will 'barely make a bowl game' in 2026

Over the course of the offseason, various college football analysts have made their predictions for Texas A&M’s 2026 season, and after coach Mike Elko led the Aggies to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history, most of these predictions have A&M making it back to the CFP with a 10-2 or, at worst, 9-3 record.

However, after That SEC Podcast host Michael Bratton released his prediction that Texas A&M with start the season at 10-0 before losing to Oklahoma and Texas to end the regular season, his co-host, better known as Cousin Shane, stated on Wednesday that he doesn’t see the Aggies even getting close to matching last season’s success, and will “barely make a bowl game this year!”

While the full clip will be posted below, Cousin Shane essentially stated that, while he fully believes in Mike Elko, his choice to elevate wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins as the program’s new OC, and Lyle Hemphill as Jay Bateman’s replacement at defensive coordinator, will not work out, predicting at 7-5 finish, which is by far the aboslute worst case scenario for a roster as talented as the 2026 Aggies.

Texas A&M will continue to be a popular punching bag no matter how Elko’s team performed last season, but the truth remains that taking a step back this fall will only fuel the narrative that the school in College Station will never reach its championship potential. The Aggies will face a tough SEC slate, including road games vs. LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma, before hosting rival Texas to end the regular season.
