Florida football's transfer QB Aaron Philo impresses an opposing coach

University of Florida transfer Aaron Philo has yet to take a snap at the Swamp, but his promise continues to rise ahead of the 2026 season.

In Athlon Sports' anonymous coaches preview, an opposing assistant named Philo "the best quarterback we faced" after watching him during his time at Georgia Tech. Philo joined the list with proven starters such as Georgia's Gunner Stockton and Oregon's Dante Moore, among others.

Philo followed his offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner, from Georgia Tech to Gainesville this offseason after flashing his potential in very limited action with the Yellow Jackets. The Bogart, Georgia, native appeared in eight games over two seasons, starting in just one of them.

The transfer quarterback did earn ACC Rookie of the Week honors after leading Georgia Tech to a comeback win over NC State in 2024.

With first-year head coach Jon Sumrall and Faulkner reshaping Florida's offense, Philo does look like the frontrunner for the starting job entering fall camp. If praise from an opposing coach is any indication, the Gators may have landed a diamond in the rough.
