Widely considered among the prime candidates for the Oklahoma State football head coaching job, South Florida coach Alex Golesh was asked directly Tuesday if he has had any communication with OSU officials.
“I have not, and I addressed it a couple weeks ago,” Golesh said during his news conference in Tampa, Florida. “I’m so focused and locked in on this program, this team. We’ve got so much work to do. … Trying to stay away from the social media piece.
“For me, I said it a couple weeks ago, but it’s humbling that people bring your name up. It’s because these guys have done an elite job of building this place to where people are taking notice. Credit to our kids, credit to our staff. But I have not.”
Current head coaches like Golesh and North Texas’ Eric Morris have garnered the most buzz for the OSU job, which has been open for nearly two months now.
OSU athletic director Chad Weiberg, who has employed the services of search firm TurnkeyZRG, has remained fairly tight-lipped about the search.
Ideally, Weiberg would like to have the next coach in place by Nov. 30, the day after OSU’s regular season finale against Iowa State.
However, that plan could be impacted by postseason possibilities. USF is mathematically still in the running to reach the American Conference title game, which will be held Dec. 5.
