After getting humiliated at Georgia over the weekend, the Texas Longhorns have tumbled down to No. 17 in the newest College Football Playoff rankings. That puts Texas out of the playoff bracket with several teams in front of the Horns.
Alabama at No. 10 is the lowest ranked at large team, although Miami’s spot in the bracket is tenuous since the Hurricanes are a long shot to make the ACC title game.
Texas sits behind five teams that are on the outside looking in at the CFP bracket, BYU, Utah, Vanderbilt, USC and Georgia Tech. Which means the Longhorns will need a lot of help AND win their final two games.
The top three of Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M remained the same. Georgia moved up in the the fourth slot, that comes with a first round bye, replacing Alabama who lost to Oklahoma Saturday.
The Sooners are ranked No. 8, one of five SEC teams in the current bracket. Three Big Ten teams are in the bracket. The Big 12 and the ACC each have one team included. The Group of Five representative is Tulane, who edged North Texas and James Madison.
