Texas Plummets in Updated College Football Playoff Rankings

As the latest College Football Playoff rankings were revealed on Tuesday night, Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns were dealt a large blow. Arch Manning and the rest of those in burnt orange slid from No. 10 to No. 17 after a 35-10 loss to Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs.

The Longhorns fell to 7-3 and now sit behind the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (No. 16), USC Trojans (No. 15) and Vanderbilt Commodores (No. 14). As of now, the Texas A&M Aggies (No. 3), Georgia (No. 4), Ole Miss Rebels (No. 6), Oklahoma Sooners (No. 8) and Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 10) are the SEC teams to occupy playoff spots.

On X, a Longhorns fan asked On Texas Football’s CJ Vogel if Texas has “any shot at the big show” anymore. Vogel quoted the post and said, “Need a prayer and a lot of help.”

Sarkisian’s squad still has matchups with the Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas A&M left on its schedule. The loss to Georgia was its third in the past two seasons after falling to the Bulldogs twice a campaign ago.

“Disappointing, because it was a pretty good game for three quarters, but it was not a good game in the fourth quarter, at least not for us,” Sarkisian said. “The challenge for us now is, we’ve got a two-week season in front of us. We got to get off the mat. We have to go and compete. We got to go and find a way to win two ballgames. We will see what happens.”
