We know the date. We know the time. We know the schools. What we don’t know is who the final choice will be and what number David Gabriel Georges will wear in college. But that may impact Ohio State in a way nobody thinks.
When David Gabriel Georges announces his college choice on July 22, he’ll pick between Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Up to this point, most analysts are predicting a Tennessee vs Ohio State battle for the five-star running back and can’t miss prospect.
“Ohio State, that’s the program I think he grew up wanting to go to,” Rivals VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong said. “He’s been there four times. His best relationship is with Buckeyes running backs coach Carlos Locklyn. He was the first to offer him when he was at Oregon. I think his taking that job at Ohio State from Oregon shows David Gabriel Georges the magnitude of what Ohio State is when you stack it up against other programs in the country.”
It’s been rumored that his NIL deal is ‘expected to be in the $1 million range, shy of $2 million, ‘ according to On3 national insider Pete Nakos. With that, he’s expected to be the first $1M running back in college.
This type of recruitment is not new for the Buckeyes — leaning on the process they went through with Jeremiah Smith throughout this cycle.
But, could there be one variable that swings things in Tennessee’s favor? Could it come down to what number he can wear in college?
“There’s the ‘he wants to wear 0’, which at Ohio State, you have to earn 0. It’s the block 0,” On3 national analyst Andy Staples said. “It was Sonny Styles last year. I don’t believe Ryan Day has awarded it yet this season, but it’ll be someone who was a major contributor — like Brandon Inniss is one of the favorites to get it.”
David Gabriel Georges currently wears 0 and is looking to wear the same number in college, but the Block “O” is a tradition at Ohio State that may not just go away if the heralded freshman arrives in Columbus.
NEW: David Gabriel Georges is now a Five-Star Plus+ Recruit, ranking 5 stars on every major recruiting platform📈

The number is a representation of Bill Willis, who played for Ohio State from 1942-44. Toughness, accountability, and the highest of character are the values needed from each player to wear the number. The previous players to wear “0” are Jonathon Cooper, Thayer Munford, Kamryn Babb, Xavier Johnson, Cody Simon, and Styles.
“Ohio State is less likely to bend that sort of thing,” Staples continued.
Will it really be the deciding factor? Time will tell, and we’ll find out in just a few days.
