Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi makes bold claim comparing ACC to Big Ten

There's always been some bickering between SEC and Big Ten fans when it comes to which conference is superior when it comes to football. For years, though the gap wasn't as great as the southern chest-thumpers would have you believe, it was hard to argue against the SEC being top dog.

In recent years, though, the Big Ten seems to have surpassed the SEC with three-straight College Football Playoff national championships, a better CFP body of work, and even more first-round NFL draft picks last year. However, maybe we've had it wrong all along. Maybe we need to step aside for the ACC, at least according to Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi.

While sitting down for an interview with 680 The Fan in Atlanta at ACC media days, the former Michigan State defensive coordinator was ready to put the crown on the ACC over the Big Ten.

“This conference is as good as any conference in the country,” Narduzzi said. “I don’t care what you make and all that. I don’t care about how many resources you have and all that baloney. Talk about different conferences and what they make… Coming from Michigan State, spent eight seasons there. Coming to Pitt in 2015, I said it then, I said it now. After about two years in the league, this conference is better — it’s better than the Big Ten. It’s got more skill… I’ve said that for years and I’m going to stick to my guns.”

That's a bold claim, and it doesn't really hold water, or even siphon it for that matter. Narduzzi did point to the record on the field in bowl games and head-to-head as proof.

“You look at our record,” Narduzzi continued. “You look at our record in bowl games against the SEC and Big Ten. You look at our record in the regular season. We don’t have a losing record; we have a winning record against those teams.”

We assume by "we" Narduzzi means the ACC and not Pitt because, just from looking at his record against the Big Ten as a head coach during his eleven-year stint (2015-current), it's a losing one at 1-5, with the only victory coming against Penn State, 42-39 in 2016. See how we can cherry-pick numbers, too? Any unbiased observation of the two leagues is going to land on the Big Ten being the better conference without much of a fleeting thought.
