Oklahoma's receiving corps earns high praise heading into 2026

Although the Oklahoma Sooners reached the College Football Playoff in 2025, the Sooners understood that earning a spot wasn't the final goal and that improvements were still needed.
The Sooners had built a championship-caliber defense, but it was the offense that was holding the Sooners back. The biggest issue was the lack of reliable playmakers who could consistently create explosive plays when the offense needed them most. Wide receiver Isaiah Sategna had a great first year in Norman, grabbing 67 passes for 965 yards and eight scores. Sategna became the lone dependable option in the passing game, consistently delivering when Oklahoma needed a big play.
That led general manager Jim Nagy and his staff to make improving the receiver room a major priority in the offseason. Oklahoma landed former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Parker Livingstone and former Virginia Cavaliers receiver Trell Harris in the transfer portal. Livingstone is a big receiver who totaled 516 yards on 29 catches and six touchdowns last season. Harris emerged as one of the ACC's top pass-catchers last season with 59 catches for 847 yards and five scores.
Those additions led longtime college football analyst Phil Steele to reveal that he believes it's the best receiving corps under Venables.
“I think it’s the best receiving corps that Venables has put on the field in his four years,” Steele said on 'The Franchise Morning Show.' "You look at (Isaiah) Sategna coming back, adding in a Parker Livingstone coming in from Texas, Trell Harris coming in from Virginia; those are a couple of key pickups there.”
Oklahoma's defense proved last season that it can compete at a championship level, but the offense must improve if the Sooners want to make a deeper playoff run. Adding Livingstone and Harris gives quarterback John Mateer more reliable targets and could transform the passing game into a true strength.
If this receiver group lives up to expectations, Oklahoma could have one of the most complete teams in college football.
