Details of Tom Herman's contract with FSU have been revealed

Florida State football bolstered its coaching staff nearly two weeks ago when it added Tom Herman. He has previously been a head coach for the Texas Longhorns, Houston Cougars, and Florida Atlantic Owls.

With that said, the details of how much he'll be paid have come to light per Kolby Crawford of Noles247. Herman's paycheck isn't what people think it is.

Florida State onboarding paperwork obtained by Noles247 through a public records request shows Tom Herman signed on with the Seminoles as an OPS employee, the university's classification for hourly staff, at $25 per hour across a 40-hour week. His tentative start date was listed as July 15.

Herman got a contract extension from Houston in December of 2015 that took his salary from $1.3 million annually to $2.8 million. At Texas, he signed a five-year deal worth $28.75 million in 2016, and an extension was supposed to pay him $6.5 million in 2022 and $6.75 million in 2023 (he was fired in January of 2021 and was owed a buyout of $15.4 million).

When Herman was at FAU, he had a base salary of $750,000 with the ability to rise to $1.5 million by the fifth year. However, he was fired in November of 2024 and was owed a reported buyout of close to $4 million. As you can see, Herman's dealt with some big numbers before, which makes his salary with FSU a shocker.

As far as his role, Herman will assist the coaching staff with game analysis. He will spend a significant amount of time with defensive coordinator Tony White, as he will help with stress-testing defensive concepts from an offensive perspective.

This will be something new for Herman, but it also allows him not to have to worry about the stress of running the entire show. He surely wants to reclimb the coaching ranks, and taking a step back while simultaneously showing that he can be a viable asset.
