Alabama football just keeps adding talent.

On Sunday, Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide landed another major piece for the future when four-star edge rusher Tysir Young announced his commitment to Alabama. While 2028 prospects still have a long way to go before they ever step foot on a college campus, the early momentum Alabama is building on the recruiting trail is impossible to ignore.

Young, who is regarded as the No. 1 player in the state of Delaware, gives Alabama another blue-chip prospect in what is quickly becoming one of the nation's most impressive recruiting classes.

For a coaching staff that has spent the last year hearing questions about whether Alabama could continue recruiting at an elite level after the retirement of Nick Saban, commitments like this continue to provide the answer.

The Crimson Tide isn't slowing down.

They're loading up.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, Young has already developed into one of the premier pass-rushing prospects in the 2028 class. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, he checks in as the No. 13 edge rusher in the country and the No. 105 overall player nationally. Those rankings are impressive enough on their own, but they only tell part of the story.

Turn on his film and it's easy to understand why so many major programs wanted him.

Young plays with an explosive first step, doesn't quit on plays, and has the kind of motor coaches love. He consistently finds ways to get into the backfield, and his combination of speed, physicality and effort makes him a difficult matchup for opposing offensive tackles. As he continues to mature physically over the next few years, there's every reason to believe his best football is still ahead of him.

That potential is exactly what Alabama's coaching staff saw when they extended an offer back in March.

Just a few months later, that investment paid off.

Young chose Alabama over an impressive list of offers that included Auburn, Georgia, Duke, Boston College, Cincinnati and several other programs. For Alabama to win another recruiting battle against multiple Power Four schools speaks volumes about what DeBoer and his staff are building.

One commitment may not determine the future of a program, but momentum certainly matters.

And right now, Alabama has plenty of it.

Young becomes the seventh member of Alabama's 2028 recruiting class, a group that currently sits atop the national recruiting rankings according to 247Sports. Yes, it's still incredibly early in the recruiting cycle, but building this kind of foundation matters. Elite recruiting classes often start with elite players committing early and then helping recruit other talented prospects to join them.

We've already seen that happen with several Alabama commitments over the past few recruiting cycles.

Players want to play with other great players.

Success attracts success.

The Crimson Tide's 2028 class already has plenty of star power.

The headliner may still be in-state quarterback Kingston Preyear, who committed earlier this month and has quickly become one of the faces of Alabama's future recruiting efforts. Landing one of the state's top quarterbacks was already a huge victory, but surrounding him with elite talent on both sides of the football only strengthens the class.

Between NIL opportunities, the transfer portal, constant coaching movement and endless competition from other powerhouse programs, convincing elite prospects to commit takes far more than simply pointing to championship trophies.

Alabama continues selling all three.

Perhaps the most encouraging part of Alabama's recruiting success is its geographic reach. Young comes from Delaware, while other recent commitments represent different regions across the country. Alabama isn't simply relying on in-state recruiting anymore. The Crimson Tide continue to attract elite prospects regardless of where they live.

That's the sign of a national brand.

Even more importantly, it's the sign of a coaching staff capable of identifying talent early and building relationships before many recruiting battles truly heat up.

While Alabama's 2028 class is generating plenty of excitement, it's also worth remembering that recruiting rankings fluctuate constantly over the next few years. More commitments will come. Some players will rise in the rankings while others fall. Every program will add and lose prospects before National Signing Day eventually arrives.

But what doesn't change is the momentum Alabama has established.

The Crimson Tide currently hold the nation's No. 1 recruiting class for 2028, ahead of programs like Ohio State, Georgia, Penn State and Miami. That's impressive company, and it reinforces that Alabama remains one of college football's premier destinations for elite recruits.

Ironically, Alabama's 2027 recruiting class currently sits much lower in the national rankings than fans are accustomed to seeing. But it's also far too early for concern. Recruiting cycles develop differently every year, and Alabama has consistently proven it can close strong when it matters most.

If anything, the success of the 2028 class should reassure fans that DeBoer's long-term recruiting vision remains firmly on track.

Adding a player like Tysir Young isn't just about filling a roster spot.

It's about continuing to build a championship foundation.

Elite defenses begin with players who can pressure quarterbacks, disrupt offenses and change games from the edge. Alabama has built championship teams around dominant defensive linemen for decades, and Young has the athletic ability to someday follow that tradition.

There's still a long road ahead before he ever wears crimson on Saturdays.
