Head coach Mike Norvell provides fall camp injury updates

With fall camp beginning on Wednesday, head coach Mike Norvell marked the beginning of the new football season with a media availability on Monday. As usual, the head man provided injury updates with the first game of the season just over a month away.

To begin his press conference, Norvell mentioned that WR Jayvan Boggs and LB Mikai Gbayor are going to be limited to begin fall camp. Boggs struggled with an injury last season, but is projected to be in the thick of the wide receiver mix behind Duce Robinson. Gbayor transferred to Florida State from North Carolina but spent time at Nebraska under Tony White early in his college career. He is expected to factor heavily into the linebacker rotation this season.

“Guys are progressing well. There will be a few guys that are limited going in (to fall camp). Boggs and Gbayor are going to be a process to seeing full participation. They’re doing a great job doing all the things that they can do…Throughout fall camp we will see exactly where they are. Both have an open door of potential to be ready for the first game.

Sticking with the linebacker group, true freshman Izayia Williams will be a full participant when camp begins on Wednesday. According to 247Sports, Williams was the fourth-highest-rated prospect in FSU’s 2026 recruiting class and could be in contention to see the field in his first collegiate season.

“Izaiya came in and is fully cleared. He defiently looks the part, I am excited to see him out in practice. He’ll be ready to go.”

Moving up one level to the defensive line, Norvell touched on the status of Jordan Sanders and Cam Brooks. The former has no designation to begin fall camp, welcome news for a Seminole front that will count on him at defensive tackle. Norvell said true freshman Brooks could factor into the year during the back half of the season.

“Sanders will be full and ready to go.”

“Cam Brooks we will expect back this year. He will be limited the first part of the season…You feel his urgency in how he has gone about his business.”

The Noles seem to be in strong health heading into August. The offensive line had no reported injuries, a far cry from how banged up the group was last year, and that time together should lead to better chemistry with the football season in sight.
