Oregon Loses 6-Foot-5, 250-Pound Pass-Rusher to College Football Powerhouse

The Oregon Ducks have had a great summer in recruiting for their 2027 class, but suffered a setback on Monday for the 2028 class.

Per 247Sports, the Ducks have the No. 3 recruiting class for 2027. Oregon will reload at several positions, including at wide receiver and on the edge.

Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has proven to be a great recruiter, as evidenced by the roster he's amassed for the upcoming season. Oregon should have the No. 2 or No. 3 overall roster heading into the upcoming season, only behind Texas and potentially Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish and Oregon were battling for a highly-rated pass-rusher for the 2028 class. Per Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, Darieon Prescott is committing to Notre Dame, choosing the Fighting Irish over Oregon and Texas A&M.

He’s ranked as the No. 18 Recruit in the 2028 Rivals Industry Rankings."

Prescott, a native of Bolingbrook, Illinois, is choosing to stay in the Midwest rather than heading South to Texas A&M or West to Oregon.

Notre Dame has landed several stellar recruits for the defensive lien 2027, Prescott will give the Irish more help for its rotation in the future.

Fans on social media reacted to Prescott choosing the Irish, with some fans giving criticism to Lanning.

"(Notre Dame head coach) Marcus (Freeman) is everything Dan Lanning should’ve been for Oregon (and much more)," wrote a fan.

"Freemans building an insane defensive line room," posted another.

"Elko and Lanning continue to get lockered," commented a fan.

"Sad to see players avoiding conference level competition," posted another.

"The Notre Dame money bags are getting themselves these high profile DL. Prior to the NIL world they couldn’t recruit these linemen.. ND is a big time spender!" argued a fan.

"Looks like the Fighting Irish just upgraded from “defense” to “defense on steroids”, welcome to the edge of greatness, Darieon!" wrote a poster.
