Oklahoma Sooners trending for trio of prospects in 2028 class

The Oklahoma Sooners2027 recruiting class is one of the best in the nation, and OU is off to a strong start in the 2028 cycle with a commitment from blue-chip quarterback prospect Trey Tagliaferri.

With their quarterback in the mix, Oklahoma gets a head start on the peer recruiting front for the class. They'll be in the mix to have another really strong class, especially if they're as successful as many think they can be in 2026. As the coaching staff gets ready for fall camp and what could be another big season in 2026, they've picked up predictions for a trio of 2028 prospects in the last couple of weeks.

Here's a look at the three players the Sooners are trending for in the 2028 recruiting cycle.

Gavin Wilson, OL

Back on July 23, Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop and Rivals issued a prediction favoring the Sooners for Bixby offensive line prospect Gavin Wilson. Wilson, an interior offensive lineman, is considered a three-star prospect in the cycle and ranks as the No. 19 player at his position and the No. 7 player in the state of Oklahoma.

Wilson has nine Power Four offers, according to 247Sports. Arizona State, Baylor, Kansas State, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, and Purdue have all shown interest in the Sooner State product.

McCuistion's prediction is the second favoring the Sooners. Sam Spiegelman of Rivals also issued a prediction for Oklahoma back in June.

Jayshawn Mitchell, RB

The Sooners look like the favorite to land Jayshawn Mitchell out of the San Antonio, Texas area. Mitchell is a four-star player and ranks as the No. 169 player in the class, according to 247Sports. Sam Spiegelman of Rivals issued a prediction in favor of Oklahoma back on July 22.

Mitchell currently holds 17 Power Four offers, which include Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, and Texas Tech.

As a sophomore in 2025, Mitchell carried the ball 31 times for 255 yards and two touchdowns. He also recorded 26 receptions for 474 yards and eight touchdowns.

He's a dynamic dual-threat running back who is set to have a huge junior season in 2026. He's an incredible athlete, with great lateral agility in the open field.

Kamieon Compton-Nero, ATH

The Sooners also look to be trending favorably for another in-state star in Kamieon Compton-Nero. On July 22, Spiegelman issued a prediction favoring the Sooners in his recruitment. Compton-Nero is a consensus top 100 prospect in the nation, coming in at No. 98 per Rivals, No. 53 per 247Sports, and at No. 37 in the nation according to ESPN.

The Owasso Rejoice Christian star projects at safety for the Sooners. In 2025, he recorded 95 tackles, five interceptions, returning three for a touchdown. At quarterback, he totaled over 3,300 yards and 49 touchdowns to lead Rejoice Christian to back-to-back state titles.

He holds 20 Power Four offers, including 11 from SEC and Big Ten schools and Notre Dame.
