Alabama cornerback Zabien Brown may have shown his hand a little bit during last week's SEC Media Days.

Brown became the spokesperson for the Tide, assuring Alabama fans that there shouldn’t be much to worry about.

“I think this is the best group that I’ve had since we’ve been here, for sure. I’m real excited [about this season],” Brown said. 

Brown also pointed to Alabama's chemistry as a major reason for his optimism, noting that players are more comfortable with their roles after three years in the system.

As one of Alabama's most experienced defenders, Brown has a unique perspective on which young players are ready to make the jump. And he didn't hesitate when asked which teammates could emerge this season.

LB QB Reese

We had talked about linebacker QB Reese earlier in the offseason.

Longtime Bama linebacker Deontae Lawson made sure that Reese received his flowers. He didn’t see a whole lot of snaps last season, but he was a consistent contributor on special teams.

Reese totaled six tackles with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

And Brown seems to echo Lawson’s feelings.

“I really like QB Reese,” Brown told Tide 100.9’s Ryan Fowler. “He’s a dog, man. He’s hungry. You see every day the way he walks; he can’t wait to get in the building.”

Not only that, Reese believes that Alabama’s linebacker group can be one of the best in the country.

"Everybody thinks that we're young, but we're ready to play for sure," he told Trevor Denton.

WR Derek Meadows

Derek Meadows was a result of persistence from head coach Kalen DeBoer. Originally an LSU commit, Meadows changed his mind and came to Alabama.

He’s the type of player that it’s hard not to get excited about. He has tremendous length at 6-foot-5, 215 pounds with incredible body control.

The perfect combination of a player who can cause headaches for opposing secondaries.

“I think Derek Meadows is definitely going to emerge as a big-time player for us,” Brown said to Fowler.

With the exit of Germie Bernard, who was Alabama’s leading receiver, and the injury to transfer receiver Noah Rogers, it opens up the door for players who saw limited snaps last season like Meadows to take another step in his development.

S Ivan Taylor

While Taylor may not have an immediate starting role, his emergence could provide Alabama with another dynamic piece in the secondary.

And since walking onto campus last season, his energy has been infectious.

Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack was blown away by the way he carried himself as a freshman. Before the 2025 season began, Taylor was already catching Wommack’s eye.

“Ivan, he’s got a ton of energy. He’s excited to be out there every single day. He’s got a hunger to learn and I think he’s probably one of the best open-field tacklers I’ve seen as a freshman… He’s got a real knack for the ball and I’m excited to kind of build upon that.”

Brown echoed that sentiment last week.

“Ivan’s hungry man,” Brown said. “He’s a young gun and he’s energy in a bottle. He’s ready to go.”

WR Cederian Morgan

Fall camp hasn’t even begun yet, and true freshman Cederian Morgan is already turning heads.

When you look at him, you don’t think he’s a freshman with his 6-foot-4, 225 pound frame. And the second he walked onto campus, he was already drawing comparisons to Alabama legend Julio Jones.

“We have a lot of young guys that’s working their tail off, and Cederian’s one of them,” said Alabama wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams during Spring Camp. “It’s literally like looking in a time machine, watching a guy. He’s a little bigger than me… I’ve seen him since he was in high school. So, it’s just crazy to see how he’s came in, had his head down, trying to learn from older guys, and I remember being in that position.”

The Alexander City native was the 39th-ranked player in the 2026 freshman class, and the fourth-ranked receiver.

Like Meadows, the injury to Rogers immediately opens up a spot for a guy like Morgan to make an immediate impact. 

And Brown thinks it’s a real possibility.

“I think he’s going to wake a lot of people up. He does not drop the ball.”

A bold statement about a freshman. But Brown was never one to mince words.

Brown's confidence doesn't guarantee Alabama will return to the top of college football. 

But if his evaluation of the Crimson Tide's young talent is accurate, the program may have more answers than outsiders expect heading into the 2026 season.
