Drew Allar Keeps Saying What We All Saw During Penn State Career

Former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar had shown a lot of promise at times during his time at Penn State. 

However, there was always a sense that he could have been a lot better under center. Not that he didn't have all the physical tools to be a really good player or couldn't figure things out, but it felt like his IQ wasn't as high as many fans were hoping for in big moments. 

Unfortunately for Penn State and the young man, that resulted in him being drafted in a later round and the Nittany Lions not winning the games that they wanted to. 

Penn State was expected to be a national title contender year in and year out, but had an embarrassing season in Allar's senior year before he went down with an injury.

A lot of that was probably due to James Franklin. Franklin obviously didn't bring in the right coaches to ensure he had the proper tools around him, and when speaking to reporters about that difference in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it almost felt like Allar threw a shot at his former head coach.

“Football comes down to situational awareness and execution, especially in two-minute,” said Allar, who also threw an interception on a deflected pass during a seven-on-seven segment, per The Athletic. “Coach McCarthy had a stat that around half of our games are going to come down to a two-minute drive, whether it’s us on offense or the defense is up on the field. As an offense, we’ve got to find ways to execute.”

Everything Allar touched on here is something that he didn't really prove during his time at Penn State. 

I'm curious to see how he looks in the NFL and whether some of his problems can be figured out at the highest level, but there's a reason why many teams were still willing to take a chance on him.

The Steelers also understood that he had a lot to work on and still does, so it will take some time.
