The USC Trojans enter this season with a coaching tandem that might top many other programs. Gary Patterson is an elite defensive mind, and Lincoln Riley knows offensive Xs and Os on an NFL level. Both coaches are joining forces to accomplish something they couldn't do individually. That ultimately was a big reason for Patterson joining USC.
In a recent tweet, the Big Ten's official football X account spotlighted why Lincoln Riley believes Gary Patterson came to USC. Here is what he had to say:
"I think he has a few things left in his career that he wants to be a part of . . . and he knows that USC, in this moment and time, creates that opportunity.
Gary Patterson is a very credible coach, and he is now a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. The one thing missing from his career is that national title victory. Riley and Patterson both seem confident that they can join forces and coach a team to accomplish that. The Trojans' roster definitely is as talented as both coaches have had in their own individual coaching years. It will be a path full of challenges, but the first step in going on a title run is having that belief, and the Trojans got that checked off heading into fall camp.
