ESPN names Florida State star among nation's most important players

Florida State football wide receiver Duce Robinson continues to earn national recognition as one of college football's premier playmakers entering the 2026 season.

ESPN's Bill Connelly released his annual ranking of the 40 most important players in college football on Tuesday, placing Robinson at No. 30 overall. Rather than simply identifying the sport's best players, Connelly's list highlights those whose performances could have the greatest impact on their team's success during the upcoming season.

Robinson's inclusion comes after a breakout debut season in Tallahassee following his transfer from the USC Trojans. The senior hauled in 56 receptions for 1,081 yards and six touchdowns in 2025, becoming Florida State's first 1,000-yard receiver since Tamorrion Terry accomplished the feat in 2019. His 1,081 receiving yards ranked ninth nationally during the regular season, while his average of 19.3 yards per reception was the second best in the ACC.

Connelly pointed to Robinson's importance within Florida State's offense, noting that while quarterback Ashton Daniels will direct the Seminoles' attack, Robinson remains the proven game-changing weapon expected to elevate the unit. With Florida State replacing its entire starting offensive line, having an elite receiver capable of creating explosive plays could be even more valuable as the offense looks to find consistency early in the season.

The latest recognition adds to what has already been an impressive preseason for Robinson. He was previously named to the preseason All-ACC team, landed on the Maxwell Award Watch List and was recognized by ESPN as one of the nation's top returning wide receivers. Robinson also earned first-team All-ACC honors and was a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist after his standout 2025 campaign.

Robinson elected to return to Florida State for his senior season despite attracting NFL draft interest, giving Mike Norvell's offense one of the country's most experienced and productive receivers. The 6-foot-6 target is expected to serve as Daniels' primary weapon as the Seminoles navigate one of the nation's toughest schedules, beginning the season against the New Mexico State Aggies, SMU Mustangs, and Alabama Crimson Tide before diving into the heart of ACC play.
