Georgia transfer joins SEC football program

Georgia Bulldogs track star Maurice Gleaton Jr. has transferred to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Gleaton intends to run track and play football throughout his time at Arkansas. 

Standing at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, Gleaton is an excellent athlete with elite speed. The former Bulldog is expected to juggle playing wide receiver and running track at Arkansas, and Gleaton’s speed should emerge as a weapon on the Razorbacks’ offense in 2026. Gleaton is expected to be among the fastest players in college football.

Gleaton joins a talented Arkansas wide receiver room just one month prior to kickoff, and the former Bulldog will need to learn a lot throughout fall camp. 

Gleaton was a star throughout his time on Georgia’s track and field team. The freshman won the first race of his collegiate career in 2026, and Gleaton’s impressive 6.55 second 60-meter time is the third-fastest in UGA history. Gleaton now finds himself with an excellent opportunity in the Razorbacks’ offense this upcoming season, and the former Bulldog’s speed could be a difference-maker moving forward. 

Georgia football originally submitted an offer to Gleaton after his success playing wide receiver at Langston Hughes High School. Gleaton ultimately decided to join Georgia’s track and field team, and the former Bulldog is now set to continue his collegiate career at Arkansas following the announcement.

Gleaton would have been fun to watch at Georgia and it is unclear if the Bulldogs would've allowed Gleaton to join the football program. The speedster's departure is a blow for Georgia track. Gleaton and the Razorbacks open SEC play up against Georgia.
