Oregon Ducks quarterback Dylan Raiola transferred from Nebraska before he knew Dante Moore would return for the 2026 season.
Raiola, a two-year starter at Oregon, was aware Moore could return for the upcoming season before he decided to commit to the Ducks.
With both quarterbacks, the Ducks will have the best quarterback room in college football. Still, it's a new situation for Raiola, who will have to sit behind Moore for one season before getting his chance to start.
During an interview with Logan Brown of USA Today, Raiola said he will be preparing in training camp like he'll have an opportunity to play this fall. There is a possibility Oregon will need him if Moore suffers an injury.
“I’m preparing, knock on wood that nothing happens, but I’m just preparing," Raiola said.
"Anything can happen. Obviously (Moore’s) going to hopefully win the Heisman and do all his stuff, but it’d behoove me to not be ready to put myself in a position to be ready this year so next year it’s not, ‘Alright, it’s time to get ready now.’”
The Ducks have questions about the offensive line. There is a possibility Oregon could call on Raiola this season.
With that being said, Raiola came to Oregon knowing he'd have a better chance to enhance his skills for the 2028 draft.
Moore has been helping Raiola become a professional on and off the field.
“Dante offers a lot, not just playing on the football field, but just a guy off the field," Raiola said. "I learned a lot from him.
"The way he handles everything, rightfully so, that he gets, it’s awesome to see his success, and I know he’s going to do great things this year for the Ducks and hopefully we’ll all be a part of something special.”
Moore's tutelage will come in handy when Raiola gets the opportunity to start in 2027. For the upcoming season, Raiola will have a great opportunity to learn from a future NFL quarterback.
For the Ducks, they'll have an insurance plan if something happens to their most important player with one of their most talented teams in history.
