Indiana football caught quite a bit of heat last week when news came out that the Hoosiers requested out of their coming series against Notre Dame.

Hoosier fans, are slightly divided on the topic, with a majority voicing approval for the series’ cancellation in our Reacts Survey this past week. Of those who responded, 57% of fans approve of the decision while the remainder were disappointed.

Indiana was originally set to face off with Notre Dame during the 2030 and 2031 seasons in a standard home-and-home format. The Fighting Irish replaced those games with matchups against USC, restoring one of college football’s most storied rivalries.

The two have sparse history together outside of a recent College Football Playoff matchup that saw Notre Dame beat Indiana in 2024 in the latter’s playoff debut as a program. The Hoosiers, of course, used this loss to fuel their run to the national championship in 2025.

The two are among the top preseason contenders for the 2026 national championship, with Indiana sitting with the sixth best odds to win the title at +950 while Notre Dame holds the second best odds at+550, per FanDuel Sportsbook.
