Northwestern football receives massive gift on Tuesday

The Northwestern football program got a huge gift from the family of Liz and Dick Uihlein on Tuesday.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Northwestern has received a commitment for a $35 million gift from the family, and it will come over the next three years. The gift is meant for football success and will help recruiting and the overall program.

This comes right as the program is set to open the new Ryan Field during the season.

This is a big deal for the Wildcats as they try to compete more in the Big Ten. David Braun has been the head coach for the last three seasons and helped them finish the 2025 season with a 7-6 record.

Braun has led the Wildcats to a bowl game in two of his three seasons at the helm and will try to make it three out of four seasons this year. He has a 19-19 overall record since taking over the team ahead of the 2023 season.

The Wildcats will open the 2026 college football season on Sept. 5 against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Their first Big Ten game will come on Sept. 25 against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Kickoff for the Wildcats-Jackrabbits game will be at 8 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
