Two of Big Ten's top 10 rushing leaders out at Michigan, including Purdue football star

ANN ARBOR, Michigan — Two of the Big Ten’s top 10 rushing leaders will not be on the field Saturday night at Michigan Stadium.

Purdue football senior running back Devin Mockobee, who is just 13 yards away from becoming the fourth Boilermaker to rush for 3,000 yards in his career, is out against the Wolverines.

Opposite Purdue’s sideline, Big Ten leading rusher Justice Haynes, who is averaging 7.1 yards per carry and has 857 yards on the ground, will miss the 7 p.m. kickoff.

Mockobee has five touchdowns this season, and threw another TD at Notre Dame. He is Purdue’s leading rusher with 521 yards and averaging 4.2 yards per carry. He’s current 328 rushing yards away from Otis Armstrong for third in Purdue history.

Mockobee’s absence elebvates the roles of Malachi Thomas, a transfer from Virginia Tech who had a breakout game last Saturday against Rutgers, and Antonio Harris.

Purdue running back Devin Mockobee runs with the ball against Illinois defensive lineman Curt Neal on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette.

Thomas had 112 yards, including 62 on the ground, and scored his first touchdown as a Boiler last Saturday on a pass from Malachi Singleton. Thomas has carried just 24 times this season, but is averaging 5.8 yards per carry, aided by a 57-yard run against Rutgers.

Harris is averaging 7.6 yards per carry on just 20 totes and has one touchdown.

Also ruled out at Michigan is safety An’Darius Coffey, tight end George Burhenn and receivers Chauncey Magwood and De’Nylon Morrissette.
