Penn State will play its final home game of the regular season in Beaver Stadium this weekend when it welcomes Matt Rhule and Nebraska to Happy Valley. he primetime game will see Penn State fight to keep its bowl eligibility hopes alive going into the final week of the regular season. After picking up a long-awaited win last week in East Lansing to snap its six-game losing streak, Penn State may be feeling pretty good about getting a second striaght victory this week.

Penn State is a solid favorite at home this week against the Cornhuskers, but this season has proven that no game can be taken for granted. How is our staff feeling about this week’s matchup?

Here are our final score predictions for this weekend’s home game against Nebraska.

Sam: Penn State 24, Nebraska 21

  • Player of the game: Kaytron Allen

This game will feature good old-fashioned Big Ten trench warfare, as both these teams are starting backup quarterbacks and want to run the football. I give the edge to the Nittany Lions’ duo of Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton, who combined for 237 yards rushing last weekend. The Penn State defense has also turned a corner, and I expect them to make some splash plays in the clutch.

Christopher: Penn State 30, Nebraska 25

  • Offensive Player of the Game: Kaytron Allen
  • Defensive Player of the Game: Dani Dennis-Sutton

Penn State are coming off their first win in almost two months with a ton of momentum and feeling as if they found their identity again. With a 4-6 record, bowl eligibility is not that far away. They can take one step towards that goal with a win in the final home game of the season, which also happens to be Senior Night. A lot of this year’s seniors may leave Penn State feeling bittersweet about the lost season, but they will want to have solid send-offs to their Penn State careers. Against a Nebraska team with uncertainty at the QB position, Penn State should have just enough offensively to pull out a victory. Look for Kaytron Allen and Dani Dennis-Sutton to impress in their final home starts.

Andrew: Penn State 31, Nebraska 20

  • Offensive Player of the Game: Kaytron Allen
  • Defensive Player of the Game: Dani Dennis-Sutton

Nebraska is one of the more underrated teams in the Big Ten. The Cornhuskers are 7-3 and have been in and out of the rankings all season. However, Penn State seems to have found itself. A big win against Michigan State last week, with the team looking back to its “normal self.” The Nittany Lions will continue to play well, back at home, with Ethan Grunkemeyer taking another step, as he has in every game he’s started. The running back duo of Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton will continue to have success as the push from the Penn State faithful for Terry Smith to remain the head coach will get stronger.

Kevin: Penn State 24, Nebraska 20

  • Offensive player of the game: Kaytron Allen
  • Defensive player of the game: Dani Dennis-Sutton

If last week was any indication of what Penn State needs to do to win a game, it is sticking ot the running game. The second half at Michigan State saw the running game take the game over and put things away, so I want to see if Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton can set the tone this week against a solid Nebraska defense. The passing game is not going to deliver the results we were hoping to see outside of maybe a good play here or there, so this is a game focused on the success on the ground.
